SOME COMMENTS ABOUT THE PAINTINGS

This painting is the result of innumerable dives in Caribbean waters. The friendly and fearless Sergeant Major Fish is omnipresent and beautiful, ensuring it's place on our canvas. Working from memory and imagination, we have tried to re-create the experience of diving with these fish rather than an image as one might see in a camera. There are profound difference, mainly the passage of time and fish in motion, but also our own motion as the observers. In our collective memories, we know what the coral looks like behind the fish, or when the fish is not there. We remember the school more than the individuals, and don't know just how many there were. We have tried, in this painting, to keep the mystery of honest observation alive.
